Trojans win CR scrimmage
CEDAR RAPIDS— Coach Brad Stiles’ West High Trojans warmed up for the regular season of boys’ varsity soccer with a 2-1 win Thursday, March 29, against CR Prairie. The MVC squads met in a 40-minute scrimmage match as part of CR Washington’s Soccer Jamboree held at Kingston Stadium.
Ryan O’Deen put in West’s first goal with an assist by Alex Troester. The Prairie Hawks retaliated and tied the match 1-1 before Nathan Schuchert put in the winning goal. Troester’s brother Ben had the assist, prompting Stiles to remark afterward, “It was a good day for the Troester’s.”
West opens the regular season Thursday, April 5, on the road at Dubuque Hempstead. The Trojans will defend the home field at Northwest Junior High Saturday morning, April 7, as North Scott comes to town for a 10 a.m. match.
