Two arrested in North Liberty, accused of making meth

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty police uncovered the pre-cursor materials for a meth lab in a North Liberty apartment building last week.
On Thursday, Aug. 8, at approximately 9:46 p.m., a North Liberty police officer made contact with a subject near a vehicle in the parking lot of 40 Sugar Creek Ln. in North Liberty. The female subject reportedly had outstanding arrest warrants. During the contact, officers discovered material used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, including pseudoephedrine. Additional pre-cursors were believed to be in the apartment at 40 Sugar Creek Ln. #202.
The building was evacuated for safety reasons as it was unknown if an active lab would be discovered in the apartment. A search warrant was obtained for the apartment of Joshua York, and items used in the manufacture of methamphetamine were discovered inside by members of the Johnson County Multi Agency Drug Task Force, including pseudoephedrine, drain cleaner, ammonium nitrate, Coleman fuel and scales. The material was removed from the building by investigators. According to the report, York stated he was aware people were using methamphetamine from time to time in his apartment, but denied knowing it was being manufactured.
Building owner Steve McCoy said the drug task force allowed other residents to return to their apartments elsewhere in the building after task force inspectors made sure it was safe. McCoy said he is consulting with experts to determine if any contamination existed in the apartment of the accused, and to remove any contaminants that may be found.
The following persons were charged:
Joshua Edwin York, 36, of 40 Sugar Creek Ln. #202, North Liberty, was charged with gathering for the use of drugs (Class D felony), possession of a controlled substance pre-cursor (Class D felony), and manufacturing methamphetamine (Class B Felony), and transported to the Johnson County jail.
Janelle Rene Davis, 35, address unknown, was charged with gathering for the use of drugs (Class D felony), possession of pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture (Class D felony), manufacturing methamphetamine (Class B felony), distribution of pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture (Class C felony) and an outstanding felony arrest warrant for a revocation of pre-trial release for possession of pre-cursors and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
While in police custody, Davis was displaying signs of an overdose or other medical problems and will be medically released before being transported to the Johnson County Jail.
The North Liberty Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Johnson County Multi Agency Drug Task Force, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, the North Liberty Fire Department, and the Johnson County Ambulance Service.
The charges filed in this case are merely accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
