Volunteer Spotlight

Rylee Johnson volunteers at the North Liberty Community Pantry.

NORTH LIBERTY– Rylee Johnson is a high school student who started volunteering with North Liberty Community Pantry in the summer of 2017. Despite her busy schedule with academics and activities, she continues to volunteer several times a month at the pantry. She enjoys volunteering while the pantry is open, so she can interact with shoppers, but also does off-shift activities, such as stocking shelves during evenings.
Johnson was first interested in volunteering during the Iowa Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference (HOBY), where she volunteered with the Food Bank of Iowa, in West Des Moines.
When she isn’t at the pantry, Johnson spends time with friends and plays soccer. She also volunteers at the Free Lunch Program in Iowa City. An interesting fact about Johnson is some of her family lives in Hawaii, so she has been there eight times.
Johnson said she wants the community to know everyone is really friendly at the North Liberty Community Pantry and it is a very relaxed, calm place to volunteer. She believes everyone should give volunteering a try, because it is a super easy way to give back to your community and you can gain valuable experience out of it.
