Women of Troy dominate Prairie, Hempstead

IOWA CITY– The West High Women of Troy improved to 3-0 with wins over Cedar Rapids Prairie and Dubuque Hempstead.
West took an early lead at home against Prairie on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and quickly left the Prairie Hawks behind, taking a 12-3 advantage after the first period and a 24-9 halftime lead.
Rachel Saunders accounted for half of those points and went on to lead all scorers with 19 points.

On Friday, Dec. 4, West traveled to Dubuque Hempstead and came away with a 53-32 win. Again, the Women of Troy took an early lead and built a gap the opposition couldn’t narrow. West led 10-4 after the first period and was up 22-9 at the half.
Maddie Huinker led with 15 points while Ali Tauchen scored nine.
West High was ranked 15th in Class 5A in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union weekly rankings issued Thursday, Dec. 4. Waukee was number one, followed by Johnston, Southeast Polk, Ankeny Centennial and City High for the top five teams in the class.
West High is home on Friday, Dec. 11, as Waterloo West visits, and again on Tuesday, Dec. 15, against Waterloo East.
