Women of Troy victorious in first match on new courts

IOWA CITY– The grand opening of the new tennis courts at Iowa City West High School was accompanied by a 9-0 win for the West High Women of Troy over North Scott.
“It was a gray day so we even had the new lights turned on!” Coach Amie Villarini said. “The courts were really nice to play on and we expect to get our new windscreens soon,” she added. “With the eight courts it’s nice to be able to put on some extra matches for players who are farther down in the lineup.”
West High won 6-0 in singles play before adding a 3-0 sweep in doubles action.

Women of Troy survive Saints

IOWA CITY— Iowa City West High’s Women of Troy defeated Cedar Rapids Xavier, 7-2, on a cold and windy afternoon Thursday, April 6, at West High.
Emma Koch, Kaily Speer, Jessica MoonJely, Meg Moreland and Abby Fowler picked up singles wins while Speer/MoonJely and Grace Brusegaard/Meg Moreland took doubles victories for West.
“The team played tough and never gave up in the extreme windy conditions,” West Coach Amie Villarini said.
West improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC).

Women of Troy win twice
North Liberty Leader
CLINTON– The Iowa City West High Women of Troy varsity tennis team improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) play with a pair of dual meet wins Saturday, April 8.
West defeated Bettendorf, 7-2, in Bettendorf and then traveled north to face Clinton, picking up an 8-1 win.
The Bettendorf match provided some high drama for West as Emma Koch and Abby Jans were down 1-7 in doubles play against the Bulldogs’ Emilia Porubcin and Hannah Borgh, but came back for an 11-9 win.
The Women of Troy pull double duty Saturday, April 15, when they take on Waterloo West, in Waterloo, at 9 a.m. and Cedar Falls High School at the Robinson Dresser Sports Complex, in Cedar Falls, at 1 p.m. West High travels to Cedar Rapids Prairie on Tuesday, April 18, for a 4 p.m. match with the Prairie Hawks.
