Leah Dee Sickels Fleagle, 49, of Cedar Rapids, died unexpectedly in her home on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009. A celebration of her life was held Thursday, Feb. 26, at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon, by the Rev. Thomas Mattson.
Leah leaves behind two sons, Corey and wife Maggie and the daughter they are expecting in May, of Springville and Tim and wife Cathy and their children, Abby, Megan, Rebecca, and Samantha, of Kansas City, Mo.; her parents Oakley and Joyce Sickels of Cedar Rapids; her brother, Dave, his wife, Angie Sickels and their six children of Solon; her sister, Jodi, her husband, Larrell De Jong, and their two children of Minneapolis; her very special friend, Mike Proudy of Cedar Rapids; her beloved pets, Chloe and Gracie; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Leah was born Dec. 1, 1959, to Oakley Wayne and Joyce Elaine Martin Sickels, in Waukon. She completed her high school education at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, receiving her diploma. Leah chose to continue her education at Kirkwood and went on to earn an associate degree in business administration.
Leah was very outgoing and artistic. She had a special passion for the outdoors and all of nature’s creatures. Leah spent countless hours taking pictures of special places and the interesting people she met as well as those she knew and loved. She later gave those photos as gifts to her family and friends. Leah adored her two sons, Tim and Corey, and was so proud of their many talents and accomplishments, the biggest of which were the grandchildren they had given her and the granddaughter that Corey and Maggie were about to bless her with. Leah will be deeply missed and remembered always in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established in Leah’s honor and donations may be mailed in care of Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, 715 10th Ave. SW, Mount Vernon, IA 52314.
