Gary Lynn Bell, 53, of Marion, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at his home from a heart attack. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, March 4, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion by the Rev. Gregory Williamson and Pastoral Assistant Donald Loesch. Visitation was held Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion and one hour before the service at the church. Burial was in Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Ann of Marion; his son, James Roy Bell of Marion; his siblings, Deborah (William) Kueter of Swisher, Randy (Verna) Bell of Fountain, Colo., and Tracy (Michelle) Bell of Marion; his brothers-in-law, John Ellerhoff of Eldridge, Roger Ellerhoff of Iowa City, and Norman (Betty) Ellerhoff of Tipton; his sister-in-law, Linda (Rod) Haag of Pueblo, Colo.; nieces and nephews, Jeffrey (Tracy) Kueter of Alexandria, Va., Amanda (Kevin) Allexon of Alexandria, Va., Jacqueline (Gethin) Edwards of Wales, Stephanie Richards (Josh Johnson) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Aaron Ingalls, Nikolas Bell, and Brendan Bell, all of Marion, Adam (Michele) Ellerhoff of Tipton, and Amber (Seth) Talbot of Washington; and seven great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Eldora Ellerhoff; and his father-in-law, Roy Ellerhoff.
Gary was born Dec. 7, 1955, the son of James and Marie (Keiper) Bell in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1974 and briefly attended Kirkwood Community College. On June 11, 1988, he married Rose Ann Ellerhoff in North Liberty. He worked at Longview Fibre for 25 years and Gazette Communications for nine years.
Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also had a real passion for scouting and had been in leadership positions in both the Cub and Boy Scout programs in Central City and Marion. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gary’s memory.
