Ivan L. Fry, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 29, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services were held June 1 at Murdoch Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Ed. Powers. Visitation was Sunday, May 31, at the funeral home. Graveside service was held Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his children, Vicky (Dennis) Pollock of Solon, Jerry (Ann) Fry of Frisco, Texas, and Peggy McArtor (Neal) Johnson of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bonnie Evans of Rock Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Katy Louise; two brothers, Dean and Glenn Fry; and a brother-in-law, Ed Evans.
Ivan was born July 19, 1927, the son of Orville and Mina (Faas) Fry in North English. On Sept. 27, 1953, he married Patricia Nicola in Washington, Iowa. She died Oct. 18, 2007. Ivan served with the U.S. Army, Navy, and Iowa State Guard during World War II. Ivan used his God-given talents to help build Asbury Retirement Home, Asbury Day Care, and well as numerous other homes and projects. Ivan first worked for Universal Engineering for 16 years, later at Goss Engineering and finally retired from Quaker Oats after 24 years.
