Emil “Skrip” William Skripsky, 86, of North Liberty, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Windmill Manor Care Center. Funeral services were held Sept. 22, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation was held Sept. 21 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Iowa City Hospice or American Cancer Society.
Emil was born July 22, 1923, in Waubeek, Iowa, to Joseph and Mary (Dlouhy) Skripsky. He graduated from Ely High School in 1941. Emil married Bernice Kinney on May 10, 1950; she died May 24, 1992. Emil was a lifelong heavy equipment operator before retiring in 1988 from Iowa City Excavating & Grading. He was a member of Western Fraternal Lodge Association in Cedar Rapids.
Emil is survived by three children, Carol Buettner of Coralville, Larry (Nancy) of Oxford and Donna Van Pelt (Rob) of Waukee; six grandchildren: Laura and Katie Buettner, Nicholas and Molly Skripsky, Jaxon and Jaden Van Pelt; sisters-in-law, Louise Schropp (Kenneth) and Wilma Skripsky; and brother-in-law, Vernon Smith.
Emil was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Frank, Joseph and Lumir; three sisters, Agnes Netolicky, Rose Pisarik and Lillian Syrovy; and his wife, Bernice.
