Dennis J. Zelezny, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died early Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Funeral Mass was Monday, March 1, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial followed at St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 28, at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, Cedar Rapids. Military honors were conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 788.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Marjorie; four stepchildren, Norma Arioso and husband Vincent, Marion; Deborah Lee Wuehle and husband Randall, North Liberty; Bernard Steine and wife Viola, Cedar Rapids; and Patricia Gibson, Cedar Rapids; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edwin Zelezny; sisters, Frances Daly and Mildred Lynott; and stepson-in-law, D. Bruce Gibson.
Dennis was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Anna (Pribek) Zelezny, and was a lifelong resident. Dennis married Marjorie J. (McConnell) Steine on July 23, 1968, in Camden, Mo. He was employed at Link-Belt Speeder, later FMC Corp., until his retirement. Dennis was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Guardians of St. Joseph Branch 137 F.C.S.L.A. (formerly Catholic Workman) and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 788. Dennis enjoyed woodworking, listening to classical music and feeding birds. He and his wife Marjorie enjoyed traveling and had visited all over the world.
