The June meeting of the Solon Book Club will be member’s choice. Each may read a biography or autobiography of their choice and share a synopsis with the group. The last meeting before summer hiatus will be Tuesday, June 21, at 6:30 p.m. so there’s plenty of time to pick a biography. After a break for the summer, the Solon Area Book Club will resume in September.
New books for adults
The latest book order should be arriving and shelved soon. In the meantime, a couple of non-fiction additions added recently may be of interest. Requested by several patrons and received recently is Todd Burpo’s, “Heaven Is For Real.” This book is a true story of a young boy emerging from surgery with remarkable stories of his visit to Heaven. At 192 pages, this is a book you’ll read from start to finish in one sitting. Cooking with love for family and friends in “Eva’s Kitchen” by Eva Longoria will bring some recipes with a Southwestern flare to your table. A wonderful book full of simply delicious recipes, with photographs of the finished dish, is a book pleasing to the eye as well as the palate.
Books For Troops update
Friends of the Solon Library and Legion Auxiliary Post 460 continue to support the deployed Iowa National Guard troops with a box containing books, newspapers, magazines, movies and candy. With the additional donations received from the public, two boxes have been sent each month.
Response from those receiving the packages has been one of gratitude. Most recently, 1SG Jerry VanDerPol had this to say: “Thank you very much for the care package that you sent our soldiers. I am sure that they will enjoy everything that you sent. The support from back home means a lot to the soldiers.”
Anyone wishing to donate items, money toward the purchase of items or sponsor the postage for a box should contact Margo Redlinger at 624-3780. Sponsorship for one box to the troops is $12.95.
