IOWA CITY– The West High Trojans finished third last Thursday, May 12, in the Class 4A Regional Track Meet at City High. In the process, 10 events were qualified for the 2011 State Co-Ed Meet which will be held in Des Moines at Drake Stadium May 19-21.
Daniel Gardarsson and Isaac Jensen will run the 3200-meter as the ninth and 16th seeded participants, thanks to their second and third place showings, respectively. Lucas Brenneman took third in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.14 seconds, earning him a trip to State as the ninth seed. Brenneman will also run the 400-meter hurdles as the 24th seed following his fourth place finish in 57.94 seconds.
Richard Bryant, Jonathan Williams, Armondo Williams and Charles Rogers won the 4x100-meter relay in 42.67 seconds, earning them a No. 3 seed at State. Armondo Williams, Andrew Gilbaugh, Jonathan Williams and Rogers finished second in the 4x200-meter relay in 1:29.49 which was good for a fifth-seed spot. The 4x800-meter relay squad comprised of Bailey Wetherell, Kaleb Greiner, Cole Hatzky and Ryson Stuart finished second in 8:06.00 and are seeded eighth in 4A.
Dondre Alexander cleared 6-02.00 in the high jump which was good for fourth place and the 14th seed in Des Moines. Derek Norland tossed the discus 150-02 for second place and will be the seventh seed. Norland was also second in the shot put with a 47-03.75 effort which bought him the No. 19 spot.
Rogers, Tre Goode, Brenneman and Gilbaugh teamed up for the 4x110 shuttle hurdle relay, winning in 57.98 seconds. The quartet is ranked third for State behind SE Polk and Valley-West Des Moines.

Long jump: Richard Bryant, fifth, 20-11.00
Cedar Rapids Washington won the meet with 133 team points followed by CR Prairie with 107. The Trojans were third with 105, City High placed fourth with 96 points.
