The Summer Reading Program (SRP), One World, Many Stories, will begin with the kick-off party from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, officially launching the 2011 Summer Reading Program. Everything you need including reading logs, T-shirt sheets and the calendar of events will be available. Refreshments will be provided by Hills Bank of Mt. Vernon.
A special kick-off party just for kids fifth grade and older will be held after hours at the library on Saturday, June 4, from 6:30-8 p.m. Pizza will be served during the showing of the movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” at the teen kick-off. Reading logs, T-shirt sheets and calendars of events will be available at this special party, also.
Tuesday, June 7, will start the SRP programming with Around The World Storytime at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers through Kindergarten, their siblings and caregivers. The theme for this week will be “Going On A World Tour” to introduce the summer theme. This 40-minute program will include stories, songs, rhymes and crafts.
Teens on Tuesdays @ 2 will be getting into the summer program on June 7 with a scavenger hunt. Join a team, follow the clues and win a prize. Ice cream will be served to all participants.
The first family night event will be on Tuesday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. with Wild Animals With Torben Platt. Come and check out Torben’s lizards, turtles, alligator and at least one very big snake.
Afternoon Adventurers will cap off the first week on Wednesday, June 8, at 1:30 p.m. with Mosaic Masterpieces. Afternoon Adventurers include children in first through fourth grades. Each week we will read a book and then do an activity.
