NORTH LIBERTY–MidWestOne Bank and Friends of the Animal Center Foundation are sponsoring a microchip event for dog owners on Saturday, June 4, (rain or shine) from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. at MidWestOne Bank on Highway 965 in North Liberty. Cost is $5 per dog (cash or checks only). The event is first-come, first-served and open to the public (no early birds please).
Microchipping is painless and takes just minutes. The microchip is approximately the size of a grain of rice and is inserted into the animal with a hypodermic needle just like any other injection. The microchip cannot move around inside or be seen from the outside. Should the animal ever become lost, police stations, veterinarians, and animal shelters can scan it to obtain information stored in the chip and link them to the owner through a national database.
• All dogs must be on a leash.
• All dog owners must bring current rabies certificate for each dog.
• All dog owners must sign a waiver before microchipping can take place.
