IOWA CITY — The 2011 Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) Singles and Doubles Regional Tennis Tournament was held at the Hawkeye Tennis Complex on Thursday, May 19. Class 1A and 2A competition was held with the champion and runner-up advancing to the State Tournament, which will be held Thursday and Friday, June 2 and 3. The State Tournament will also be at the Hawkeye Tennis Complex.
In singles action West High’s Addy Riley won the championship with teammate Olivia Lofgren the runner-up.
Riley defeated Kelsey Granneman of Ottumwa in the first round, Anna Streigel of Cedar Rapids Jefferson in the quarterfinal round and Lindsay Hall of City High in the semifinal.
Lofgren defeated Jefferson’s Megan Smothers in the quarterfinal, and beat Muscatine’s Cynthia Machael in the semifinal.
Riley and Lofgren faced each other for the championship round.
Lilli Oetting and Lola White-Baer drew a bye in the first round of doubles play for West before beating Jefferson’s Veronica Day and Crystal Terman in the quarterfinal round. The West pair faced Hanna Smith and Elly Eibes of Burlington in the semifinal, disposing of them and going on to defeat Burlington’s Angie Allgood and Hannah Eichelberger from Muscatine for the championship.
