ELDRIDGE– Solon girls soccer closed the book on a terrific season a little earlier than they wanted to, one game short of making the state tournament. The field at North Scott once again hosted the final soccer game of the season for the Spartans. Center Point-Urbana (CPU), which Solon had beat earlier in the season, came out on top this time with an overtime win of 2-1 in the regional final June 6.
Solon scored first, late in the first half on a nice drive and kick by Danielle Herdliska. That lead held up until CPU scored with three minutes left in regulation. CPU was able to get the ball in the goal in sudden death overtime.
The Spartans finished as conference champions with a record of 15-3. They came into this season much like they will go into next year, losing many talented seniors but building a terrific team with new athletes.
