IOWA CITY — The West High varsity baseball team scattered three runs over six-and-a-half innings last Tuesday to take a 3-1 win over the Regals of Iowa City Regina.
The Trojans scored in the bottom of the first, third and fifth innings on six hits; Regina’s run came in the top of the fourth. Regina had four hits in the contest.
For Regina, Drew Collins smacked a solo homerun. Nate Streb posted a double, while Jack Verducci and Brian Romanowski both had singles. Streb threw four innings giving up three runs off six hits while striking out five. George Sehl worked two innings giving up no runs and no hits and retiring three Trojan batters.
Ryan Rumpf had a solo homerun for West as well as a single, Aaron Peller hit a double and a triple, and Leo Franz posted a double. RBI’s were credited to Rumpf, Franz and Spence Bonner with his RBI single. Nick Grimsman threw five innings for West retiring three, giving up three hits and one earned run. Kellen Yoder pitched two giving up one hit and striking out three.
The Trojans will entertain Muscatine (JV/V) tonight (Wed., June 22).
