Practice for Solon Middle School football begins Wednesday, Aug. 24, the first day of school, immediately after dismissal. A player must have a current, completed physical form turned into the middle school office, in order to practice. For the first three-days, players will practice in T-shirts and shorts and football shoes.
Football equipment will be distributed on the days prior to the first day of school. All eighth graders who plan to play should report to the middle school Monday, Aug. 22, at 4 p.m. to check out equipment. All seventh graders should report Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 4 p.m. for their equipment checkout. Any eighth grader not available Monday, can also report Tuesday.
A player must have a mouthpiece to take part in any contact drills. In games, referees must be able to determine at a glance that a player has a mouthpiece. Therefore, mouthpieces must not be clear and should attach to the helmet face-mask with a strap.
The dates for the Lakeview PTO meetings this school year can be found on our website, Solon.k12.ia.us>Calendars>SCSD Online Calendar
All meetings will be held in the Lakeview Media Center beginning at 7 p.m. and childcare will be provided. We hope you will join us as we plan activities to benefit Lakeview children and staff.
Juniors and parents
Each year the Junior Class sponsors Solon High School’s Prom. As a part of this event, you are required to either work a shift at the Junior class concession stand (behind the home bleachers underneath the crows nest) for a home football game or pay $25 in class dues. If you are unable to work (due to football, band, cheerleading, etc.) you can have a parent, sibling or friend work for you to avoid paying the $25. Sign up with Mr. Koza in rm. 108 or call 624-3401 ext.1111– it is a first come first serve basis so sign up early to ensure a spot. There are three time slots available during all football games: 5-6:30 p.m., 6:30-8 p.m., 8 p.m.-close. The first home game is Sept. 3. Working the athletic booster concession stand does NOT meet this requirement.
School pictures Friday, Sept. 23
Individual school pictures will be taken at a later date of Friday, Sept. 23, by Lifetouch Photography. Several package options are available through a prepayment-money back guaranteed plan. Complete information will be distributed. All checks must be made payable to Lifetouch Photography.
School sports physicals
All athletes must have a physical examination completed before he/she will be allowed to participate or practice. School physical forms may be picked up at the school offices or are available on the school’s web site under the tab ‘Registration.’
Solon Schools participate in the federally subsidized National School Meals Program that allows children from families meeting certain income guidelines to receive free or reduced price meals. Application forms are updated annually. You must fill out the Iowa Eligibility Application and have it approved, not just the school fee waiver application, to receive free or reduced meals. The Iowa Eligibility Application form is available in the school offices.
