Violet E. Reihman, 88, of Oxford, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Crestview Nursing and Care Center in West Branch. Funeral services were held Sept. 23, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coralville. Burial was in the Oxford Cemetery.
Violet Elaine DeGood was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Oxford, the daughter of John and Lena (Kahler) DeGood. She attended Oxford schools through the fourth grade, then attended and graduated from Zion Lutheran School in Oxford. She went on to attend Irish Business College in Iowa City. Violet was united in marriage to Paul Henry Reihman on Sept. 3, 1944, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Iowa City. The couple lived in Oxford raising their family, and when Violet decided to work outside the home she worked for Clear Creek Schools in food service for a number of years. Violet’s world was first and foremost her family, she loved being married to Paul; mom to Marlene, Richard, Ronald, Jean and Bob; and grandma to well, too many to mention!
She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oxford, where she was active in Ladies Aid; a member of the Women’s Relief Corps, and served two terms on the Oxford City Council, where she co-chaired the bicentennial celebration for Oxford in 1976. Violet enjoyed fishing, doing crafts, sewing, quilting, baking, collecting dolls, but most of all, she loved caring for her family.
Her family includes her children and their spouses, Marlene (Michael) Wiese of Des Moines, Richard (Margaret) Reihman of Oxford, Ronald (Donna) Reihman of Swisher, Jean Reihman-Brandt (Don Brandt) of Marengo and Robert (Judee) Reihman of Tiffin; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her brother and his wife, Elmer and Barb DeGood of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; grandson, Travis Reihman; and three brothers, Ralph, Harold and Cletus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Violet’s memory to either the Oxford First Responders or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
