NORTH LIBERTY– A new east-west thoroughfare has recently opened in North Liberty.
Golf View Drive now extends from Highway 965 all the way through to Front Street, one more project checked off the list of long-range improvements to Highway 965. Across the highway, Golf View now lines up nicely with Fairview Lane, allowing easy travel westward all the way to Kansas Avenue.
Golf View used to terminate on either side of the Crandic Railroad, with access only about three blocks off Highway 965 and four blocks off Front Street. A bridge now crosses Muddy Creek and a signaled railroad crossing with a landscaped approach was installed for vehicle and pedestrian safety.
Realignment of Golf View Drive with Fairview Lane began in August 2010. The realignment required moving six mobile homes– two in Golf View Mobile Home park and four in Holiday Lodge– at the city’s expense of an average of $11,285 per home. It also required the city to purchase two lots from Golf View Mobile Home Park for additional right-of-way, at a cost of $103,000.
Construction on the rest of Golf View Drive began earlier this spring. According to City Administrator Ryan Heiar, the extension of Golf View all the way through to Front Street cost the city a total of $1.47 million.
