SOLON– The Solon Optimist Club is encouraging area students to contemplate the phrase, “how my positive outlook benefits my community” and write an essay as part of the Optimist International 2012 essay contest.
The Optimist Club will judge the local student essays and determine the top winners. Winners will receive awards and the winning essays will be forwarded to the district level. College scholarships are available for district level top winners.
“Young students today have so many fresh ideas about the world and their future,” club president Joe Krob said. “As Optimists, it is our goal to encourage them and do what we can to bring out the best in each of them. This gives them a wonderful opportunity to tap into their creativity and pursue possible scholarships at the same time.”
Entries are due Feb. 6. Students wishing to participate in the essay contest can learn more by contacting the club at 319-624-2538.
