SOLON– The Solon varsity wrestling team went undefeated in seven dual meets this week, raising their dual meet record to 17 wins and 2 losses. The previous record for dual meet victories by a Solon team in one season was 15, set during the 2000-01 season. On Thursday, Jan. 19, the team posted wins over Anamosa, DeWitt Central and Lisbon. Saturday, in a dual meet tournament held at Center Point-Urbana, the team downed Linn-Mar JV, Mid-Prairie, New London, and CP-U. The team appears to be peaking in preparation for the upcoming WaMaC conference tournament, to be held this Saturday at DeWitt, and for the sectional, district, and state tournaments to follow.

Individually, Cody Fritz remains undefeated on the season and is ranked fourth in the state at 152 pounds.
Joining Fritz in the individual state rankings are:
• J.J. Hanus, fourth at 170 pounds;
• Lance Evans, ninth at 184 pounds; and
• Jay Pike, sixth at 220 pounds.
Fritz, Hanus and fellow senior Jarrett Paulson at 145 pounds have become members of the Century Club, which denotes 100 or more wins during a varsity career, while Fritz, Hanus and Aaron Shulista at 160 pounds have all won at least 30 matches so far this season. Shulista leads the team with 32 wins.
The team will travel to Benton Community of Van Horne this Thursday for dual meets against Mount Vernon and the host Bobcats.
