MONTICELLO– The Solon varsity wrestling team crowned seven champions en route to a second place finish at the sectional tournament held Saturday in Monticello.
Team scores were as follows:

Individual champions for Solon included Cody Fritz (152 pounds), Aaron Shulista (160 pounds), J.J. Hanus (170 pounds), Lance Evans (182 pounds), Kyle Kroymann (195 pounds), Jay Pike (220 pounds), and Tommy Hamiel (Heavyweight).
Fritz remained undefeated with a record of 40-0 on the season and Hanus reached a milestone with the 150th win of his career in the semifinals.
Jarrett Paulson at 145 pounds will join the seven champions in advancing to the district meet by virtue of his second place finish, having pinned the top-seeded wrestler in his wrestle-back match.
Other place winners for Solon included:
• Louis Gnida (third at 106 pounds);
• Trevor Yahr (fifth at 113 pounds);
• Brian Haight (fifth at 120 pounds);
• Josh Bender (sixth at 126 pounds);
• Taylor Walkner (fifth at 138 pounds).
The team’s runner-up finish earned it a spot in the regional dual tournament against No. 1-ranked West Delaware Tuesday night, Feb. 7. This is the fourth consecutive year the team has qualified for the regional tournament.
The top two finishers at each weight class from Saturday’s district tournament at Mount Vernon will advance to the state meet. Wrestling begins at noon.
