TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) music departments will be spotlighting their jazz programs on Saturday, March 31, with their annual “Night of Jazz.” The concert will feature a special guest, jazz artist Winston Byrd. Mr. Byrd and his powerhouse trumpet wizardry will be working with the junior and senior high school jazz bands and performing with both bands on the concert.
Winston Byrd was inspired by former jazz trumpet greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson and others as early as in the seventh grade. Byrd has already firmly established himself as a rising force on the horizon in jazz.
Byrd has extended his musical leadership talents in putting together one of the most innovatively exciting 18-piece big jazz bands to emerge from Los Angeles. More information may be found on his website at www.winstonbyrdmusic.com/ .
The free program will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a dessert/ pre-show concert in the cafeteria with performances by the Faculty Jazz Group and a variety of vocal solos. At approximately 7 p.m., the main show will begin in the Performing Arts Center. The main show will include the Middle School Jazz Band, the High School Vocal Jazz Choir and the High School Jazz Band, along with special performances by Winston Byrd.
Byrd will also be leading a brass clinic open to all on Thursday, March 29, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Clear Creek Amana High School in Tiffin. This event is sponsored by Griggs Music.
