SOLON– Solon girls soccer coach John Tucker has a few new faces in the line up this year with the loss of several key players at graduation last year. Ali Herdliska and Emily Ament have joined Alison McKinnie, Brianna Pike and Jackie Meyer as forwards. Midfielders Abby Haas, Anna Seydel and Mattie Cook have been joined by Madi Durr, Candice Kucera and Marie Maston. Carissa Siddell and Vic Meade have been added to the backline to help out Katherine Carr, Allie Mercer and Katie Silberstein. Mikaela Lighty will be tending the goal this year.
April 2, the Solon girls came out strong against a brand new Williamsburg soccer program. Solon controlled the entire game. The midfielders did an excellent job of keeping the ball on the offensive end. Any fast breaks by Williamsburg that made it across the midfield were quickly snuffed out by the backfield.
The windy day played a factor for Solon as they kicked into it in the first half. It was a well rounded offensive effort with all strikers having a good number of kicks on goal. With two minutes left in the first half, Ali Herdliska drove a perfect kick from the outside to Breanna Pike who punched the ball into the goal. Solon broke the game open in the second half. With just three minutes off the clock, Alison McKinnie took the ball at midfield and wove her way through the Williamsburg backfield straight on into the goal. Seven minutes later a tenacious McKinnie took an assist from Jackie Meyer and drilled it through the crowd of defenders into the back of the goal. McKinnie ended the day with a hat trick of three goals and Solon took home its first victory of the season with a 4-0 win on a beautiful spring day.
The junior varsity girls made it a perfect afternoon with a 1-0 over Williamsburg.
