DeWITT– The Solon boy’s track team ran very well at last Thursday’s district track meet held in DeWitt and will take several events to the state meet to be held this Thursday though Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Connor Mebus led the way for the Spartans in field events, qualifying in both the shot put and discus with throws of 52 feet, one-half inch, and 149 feet 10 inches respectively. Sophomore Jordan Wymer will join him in the discus with a toss of 144 feet 4 inches. Freshman Emilio Villagrana leaped a personal best in the long jump at 19 feet, 5 inches to finish in second place.
Qualifying for state involves finishing in the top two of an event at the particular district the team is assigned to. These 16 positions become automatic qualifiers. The last eight qualifiers in each event are taken from all districts across the state based on comparative times and distances.
Automatic qualifiers for Solon in running events included:
Andy Klouda, 100 meter dash, first place in 11.56;
Jonah Kuntz, 200 meter dash, first place in 22.58 (the second fastest time from across the state);
4x100 meter relay: Andy Klouda, Colton Dall, Jordan Wymer, Jonah Kuntz; first place in 43.98;
4x200 meter relay: Andy Klouda, Riley Takes, Jordan Wymer, Jonah Kuntz; second place in 1:31.26.
