CORALVILLE– David Rosenthal’s Women of Troy dominated throughout a windy Tuesday, May 8, soccer match against the visiting Cedar Falls Tigers. West won the match 3-1 on the field at Northwest Jr. High.
Quinn Terrill scored with 21:18 left in the first half, putting West on the board with a 1-0 lead. At the 9:49 mark, Brenna Gray blasted a shot past the Tigers’ keeper for a 2-0 lead going into the halftime break.
The momentum seemed to have shifted in the second half with the Tigers getting one past West keeper Beth Crow halfway through the period. However, the Women of Troy not only kept the Tigers at bay, Sam Ryken put the match away with just over 12 minutes to go as she scored the third and final goal.
The Women of Troy were ranked ninth in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union weekly rankings for May 10, down from sixth the week before.
West embarks on a road campaign before returning home on Tuesday, May 22, to close-out the regular season at home against Cedar Rapids Jefferson. The Women of Troy begin postseason play in a first round Regional match on Wednesday, May 30, at home against Waterloo West. The winner then will play Monday, June 4, at West against either City High or Jefferson in the second round. The state tournament is scheduled for June 7 through 9 in Muscatine.
