Our DVD collection now has over 900 titles! Latest additions include:
“Hunger Games” (2012, PG13, Action/SciFi) Based on the phenomenally popular novel by Suzanne Collins, this is the film adaptation of the first book of a trilogy, set in a future where the government selects a boy and girl from each of the 12 districts to fight to the death on live television. Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match. We have three copies to help make the waiting list shorter.
“Pink Skies” (2011, Documentary) An inspirational documentary about the empowerment of women, and overcoming obstacles as athletes and as human beings. The film covers an extraordinary event, “Jump for the Cause.” Last year, JFTC brought together 181 women from 31 countries to create a world record all-women’s skydiving formation. They also raised almost $1 million dollars for breast cancer research.
The “ParadiseLost” Trilogy (Documentary/Crime/Mystery) Watching three documentaries about a gruesome multiple child murder case may not sound pleasant, but this is an incredible body of work that has earned numerous critical awards. You will watch and change your mind multiple times about the guilt or innocence of the teens accused of the crime. “Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills” (1996) begins with the horrific triple child murders and leads to an indictment and trial of three nonconformist boys based on questionable evidence. “Paradise Lost 2: Revelations(2000)”, and “Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory” (2011) continues with a further investigation into the arrest of three teenagers convicted who spent nearly 20 years in prison before being released after new DNA evidence indicated they may be innocent. The first film won a Prime-Time Emmy, the second was nominated for a Prime-Time Emmy, and the third was nominated for an Oscar last year. These films will make you think about evidence and how it may not always be as reliable as you would like it to be, and whether or not just being different is a crime.
