SOLON– Solon will soon have something it’s been lacking.
A site plan for two new 12-plex apartment buildings in the Fox Ridge subdivision was approved by the Solon City Council last week.
To be located on Lot 106 of Fox Ridge Part Four, the two three-story structures would be accompanied by three eight-unit garage buildings along Prairie Rose Lane on the south end of Solon.
The site plan had been unanimously recommended for approval by the Solon Planning and Zoning Commission at an Aug. 28 meeting.
Jeff Mekota, representing Spartan Rentals of North Liberty, said the two-bedroom, two-bathroom units would feature approximately 900 square feet and rent for $800-875 monthly.
Mekota said the construction project was undertaken to generate additional interest in multifamily lots still undeveloped in the subdivision. He indicated rental properties had been identified as a need for the community.
Council member Steve Stange expressed concern that the placement of trees at the corners of the buildings might hinder emergency responses to the third floor. He suggested using smaller ornamental trees at the corners fronting the street.
Additional lighting of the parking lot was encouraged by council member Brad Kunkel.
