Teacher Appreciation Week is observed annually as a way of strengthening respect for and support of the teaching profession. This week is an opportunity for everyone– school district, parents, students and community to express appreciation for the work and dedication of the teachers in the Solon School District.
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6 through 10. Teachers deserve some admiration and gratitude, and sometimes students need a little nudge in the right direction. Help your students discover all that teachers do with these writing and art activities, and give them a way to say thanks to a special educator who made a positive different in their lives.
Do you love ice cream? Or any of Schwann’s other great products? Solon Spotlight is sponsoring a Schwann’s fundraiser to help raise dollars to support the performing arts in Solon. Solon middle and high school music students will be around asking for your help. To help, just order some of Schwann’s delicious and convenient items from any student, and then pick up your order at the high school on May 15. Spotlight will receive a percentage of every Schwann’s order placed for this fundraiser. You can also place an order online at www.schwanns.com . Out of town friends and family can also help by ordering gift cards on the Schwann’s site that can be used anywhere and anytime for Schwann’s products. To give Solon Spotlight credit for online orders, please make sure to enter campaign ID number 42927.
If you would like to have a student stop by your house with an order form or if you have questions, please call Jami at 319-481-7088 or June at 319-325-6232. Products may be ordered until Friday, May 10. Then pick up your order at the high school parking lot from 3:30 until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15. If you are unable to make the pickup, please contact a student to arrange pickup or order gift cards to use at a later date. This fundraiser will help purchase new instruments and provide other support for SCSD’s 10 bands, 10 choirs, drama department, and the elementary music program.
School Board Recognition Week, May 5 through 11, is an opportunity to say thanks to the more than 2,000 men and women who govern Iowa’s public education system. Serving on our school board are Dave Asprey, Dan Coons, Dean Martin, Dick Schwab, Lianne Westcot. Be sure to thank them for their dedication and service.
The May meeting of the board of education is set for Monday, May 13, in the central office conference room beginning at 6 p.m.
In an effort to end our fiscal year with all meal accounts current, the Food Service Department is asking that parents check their lunch account balance on the Parent School Dining System’s web page: http://solon.is-usa.com/ Your Family ID and School Dining System password are listed on any low-balance e-mails you would have received. All balances will safely carry over into the next school year. Please remit payment to Solon Schools Food Service. If you have a graduating senior and no other students left in our school district, negative balances need to be paid before May 16. You will receive a letter and balance statement after the senior’s last day of school. Positive balances will be refunded.
It’s that time of year when we need to begin planning some of our end of the year celebrations. If you are interested in helping with our eighth grade celebration, on May 15, please contact Mary Ann Jedlicka at email@example.com .
