Lori Hilmer was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer in 2011. After successful chemo her cancer has returned. She continues with dialysis today due to kidney failure caused by the cancer. The doctors are recommending a treatment course that will require unpaid time off from work for both Lori and Todd for a month.
The Hilmers have lived in Johnson County for 22 years and have made North Liberty their home for the last 13 years. They have three children: Nick, 19; Ben, 18; and Becca, 16, who all live at home. Lori has been a school social worker for the Grant Wood AEA for over seven years, working as a service coordinator with the Early Access Program. The Hilmers are active community members, volunteering for local organizations such as the food and clothing pantry, and have coached numerous kids’ sports teams.
