SOLON– The Clippers of Clear Creek Amana (CCA) watched a 10-0 lead over the rival Solon Spartans evaporate into thin air Thursday, June 27, as the home team rallied back to win the nightcap 23-13 in six innings. Solon also took the first game of the evening 7-3 in a varsity doubleheader.
The Spartans struck first in game one in the bottom of the second inning with a pair of runs scoring on a pop-up by Connor Fitzpatrick. The Clippers got one run back in the third on an RBI single by Tanner Bandy but a long ball single by Solon’s Todd Oberthien extended the Spartans’ lead to 3-1. Clipper coach Brent Henry swapped pitcher Jake Neubauer out for Travis Bowman in the sixth inning. Neubauer had given up 11 hits and seven runs. While Bowman got CCA out of the inning, the deficit was too high and a run-less seventh inning sealed the win for Solon and pitcher Dalton Ferguson.
Henry’s bunch made a statement with four runs in the first inning of the nightcap with RBIs from A.J. Liddell, Neubauer and Jensen. Solon coach Keith McSweeney made wholesale changes out on the diamond for the top of the third inning and moved Jerad Lester to the
