CEDAR RAPIDS– The West High Trojans improved to a 2-0 record Friday, Sept. 6, on the road at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors were the latest to fall victim to coach Brian Sauser’s crew.
The Warriors scored in the first quarter and led 8-7 before the juggernaut that is West High football kicked into high gear.
Quarterback Nate Boland passed for over 100 yards and ran for 106 more, including an 87-yard keeper for a touchdown to lead the Trojan offense. Devin Raffensperger racked up 130 yards of rushing on 10 carries. All totaled, West High pounded out 360 yards of rushing. Kevin Dowell had six carries for 33 yards, Micah Kelsay went 32 yards on seven carries with a pair of touchdowns, and Clay Moel put 53 yards and one touchdown into the books on four carries.
The worried Warriors drop to 0-2 while West prepares to face Cedar Rapids Prairie at Prairie Friday, Sept. 13. The Prairie Hawks lost a close one, 28-24, to Cedar Rapids Kennedy after taking out Cedar Rapids Jefferson 24-7 in week one.
