The Hawkeyes had eight wins, including a pin from Tony Ramos (133) and cruised to a 31-6 victory at Northwestern Friday.
This time, there were no upsets according to the rankings.
Brody Grothus (149) was ranked 12th and was beaten by Jason Tsirtsis, 13-3. Jason was ranked fourth.
Also Bobby Telford (285) lost in overtime 3-1 to Mike McMullan. Bobby was ranked first or second in different polls and Mike was also ranked either first or second.
Cory Clark (125) wrestled for the first time in a month, had a couple of takedowns and back points for a 10-1 major decision.
Cory has been fighting making weight and was ranked as high as fourth before Thomas Gilman, who was ranked fifth, took over.
Next year one of them might move up to 133 to replace Tony Ramos.
I’m guessing it will be Cory and he will have all of the off-season to build up to that weight.
Ethen Lofthouse (184) is back after recovering from an injury.
Ethen got a little tired, but won 11-5.
Iowa needed this win but I’m sure Brody and Bobby aren’t too happy with their losses.
