Recreational boating re-opened on Coralville, Macbride
|
|
SOLON– Recreational boating has been re-opened on Coralville Reservoir and Lake Macbride in Johnson County. The only launch ramp at Mehaffey Bridge on Coralville was closed due to debris on Monday, but expected to be re-opened by Tuesday.

School registration now available
|
|
SOLON– Registration packets for the 2008-09 school year are available online at: www.solon.k12.ia.us under the Enrollment tab. Please return forms and payment to the Central Office no later than Friday, July 25.
Two options are available to complete registration:
1. Forms may be printed directly from the website, completed by hand, and mailed to or dropped off at the Central Office.
2. Registration packets may be picked up at the Central Office, High School or the Solon Public Library, completed by hand, and mailed to or dropped off at the Central Office. Please be certain to affix the proper postage or your registration will be returned for additional postage.
Paying fees online through PaySchools will be available after July 1, 2008.
To pay the school fees by check, please complete the necessary forms and submit to: SCSD Central Office, C/O Cindy Steege, 301 South Iowa St., Solon, IA 52333. Checks received before July 1, 2008, will not be processed until after July 1, 2008.

Annual Spartan basketball camp July 7-11 at high school gym

SOLON- Brad Randall will be hosting his annual Youth Spartan Basketball Camp the week of July 7-11 at the Solon High School gym. Boys entering 5th and 6th grade will meet from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Boys entering 7th and 8th grade will meet from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Both camps cost $50 per boy, which includes a camp t-shirt. The goal of the camps, staffed by current basketball coaches and players, is to have fun while learning fundamentals and improving technique. Solon wrestling clinic July 2

SOLON- A wrestling clinic- "Wrestling Clinic: The Pinning Edge- will be held at the Solon High School gym on July 2, for grades 4-12. The clinic starts at 9 a.m. and runs until 12:30 p.m. Featured technicians include Mark Ironside, a two-time NCAA national champion and four-time All-American, and Clint Long, a two-time runner-up at NAIA Nationals and also a four-time All-American.
At the clinic, participants will learn about set ups and take downs, pinning combinations, utilizing legs to turn opponents, and philosophy and methods to escape from underneath that work. The cost of the clinic is $25 and t-shirts are available for $10, but they must be pre-ordered.

Celebration Iowa announces Solon performance July 2
|

DECORAH- Celebration Iowa Singers and Jazz Band (formerly known as the State Fair Singers and Jazz Band), an elite ensemble of Iowa high school musicians, is pleased to announce its upcoming performance in Solon on Wednesday, July 2, 2008. The show begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Solon Methodist Church parking lot.
Emily Junge, Solon, plays piano for the Jazz Band.
