Developer balks at request for paved trail

Plan for Old Mill Creek park space to be worked out

SOLON– Everyone was apparently surprised.
Developer Cory Hodapp was surprised to find out he was expected to pay for an emergency siren and a paved trail around a detention pond in the third addition of the Old Mill Creek subdivision.
City Administrator Cami Rasmussen went him one better.
“If it’s a surprise to Cory, then I’m surprised that it’s a surprise,” Rasmussen said during a March 1 Solon City Council meeting.
It was all part of a lengthy discussion surrounding the consideration of a developer’s agreement for a new phase of the residential subdivision on the city’s western edge.

Just keep hopping

Lakeview Elementary fourth graders Rose McAtee and Addie Miller display their leaping abaility during the school’s annual Jump Rope for Heart event Feb. 24 in the Solon High School gymnasium. Jump Rope for Heart is a community service program and fundraiser of the American Heart Association (AHA). For an hour-and-a-half, students jumped with short ropes and long ropes, with partners and on their own; and in between sessions they were provided tips and demonstrations by physical education teacher Mark Sovers, who introduced the event to the district during his first year at Lakeview in 2002.

Hawk Talk

The Hawkeye wrestlers had four wrestlers in the Big Ten Finals and crowned two champions, finishing third behind Ohio State and Penn State.
It was good to see Thomas Gilman raise his hand in victory at 125 pounds last Sunday at Indiana.
The senior from Council Bluffs finished second in the Big Ten as a sophomore, third last season.
In the NCAA tournament, Thomas finished fourth as a sophomore and second last year.
Tough loss for Cory Clark in the finals at 133.

Another week... another two wins

Hawk Talk

The Iowa men played two games last week, going to Wisconsin and knocking off the Badgers, 59-57, and closing out the regular season in Carver-Hawkeye Arena Sunday beating Penn State, 90-79.
Nine hours after the Iowa women got knocked out of the Big Ten Tournament by Northwestern, the Hawkeye men, with Jordan Bohannon knocking down a 3-pointer with nine seconds left, upset the 21st-ranked Badgers.
The only other team to hold Wisconsin to fewer than 57 points was Purdue, the Big Ten Champion.
Wisconsin had won six straight against Iowa.
What a year Jordan has had.
