Arthur Louis Koffron died June 4, 2009. He was born May 25, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, to Marvin and Esther Koffron. He was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School. He attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa where he studied architecture. He married Joyce Anne Trpkosh on June 25, 1960, at St. Wenceslaus Church, Cedar Rapids.

Allen Christensen, 68, of North Liberty, died on June 6, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Per Allen’s wishes, his body was cremated.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on June 21 at Ms. Susan’s in North Liberty. This will be a time for family and friends to share memories, and a luncheon will follow.

Buzz’s head is still circled by a cone.
The sore on his paw is reduced in size but not gone, so the old hound still can’t be trusted not to lick it. We got the largest cone available, about six feet in diameter at its broadest point, but that wasn’t big enough. Buzz still managed to get his tongue on the sore, something that only makes it worse. Some people put bumper stickers on their cars bragging about their kid making all state or the honor roll; I think I’ll get one that reads “My dog can out-lick your dog.”

IOWA CITY– Bob Commings and Lute Olsen were in their second years of coaching football and basketball at Iowa, I was in my second year of being a student football manager for the Hawkeyes and football tickets were $7 (they are $50 now!) for football games.
Dan Gable was in his fourth year as assistant wrestling coach and Iowa women’s basketball was in its second year of existence.
Gerald Ford was president, the Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl and Archie Griffin won his second Heisman.
Cincinnati won the World Series and Golden State won the NBA title.

NORTH LIBERTY–The North Liberty Parks Department received a call on May 26 from a resident regarding a fish kill at Goose Lake. City personnel responded immediately and discovered many fish dead or dying along the shoreline.
Paul Sleeper, fish biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources visited the site within two hours and determined that the fish were infected with a disease called Flavobacterium Columnare, a common bacterial infection found in many home aquariums. The disease is also known as Columnaris, Cotton-Wool, Cotton-Mouth, Flexibacter Columnaris, and Mouth Fungus.
