Kathy Plaht

Kathy Plaht, 62, of North Liberty, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away suddenly in her husband’s arms on Oct. 16, 2012. Their love for each other was infinite. She will be forever missed by all who knew her for her positive and enthusiastic attitude. Services celebrating Kathy’s life were held Oct. 20 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by Cedar Memorial certified staff celebrant Julie Freese.
Kathy grew up on the family farm north of Keystone, the daughter of John and Darlene Meyer.


Douglas Petersen

Douglas Earl Petersen, 68, of Springville, died of cancer on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012.
Doug was born Feb. 6, 1944, in Anamosa, a son of Dewey A. and Nellie M. (Hurt) Petersen. He graduated from the Martelle High School in 1961. He served active duty for four years in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1965. He married Barbara Stoner of Oelwein; they divorced in 1983. Doug worked for Rockwell Collins for 38 years in production, retiring in 2003.
Local survivors include his brother Dewey (Beckie) Petersen of Ely.


Adelene Lydia Klouda

Adelene Lydia Klouda, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at St. Luke’s Living Center East. Celebration of Life Services were held Oct. 22 at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
Adelene was born Feb. 14, 1916, in North Liberty, the daughter of Mike and Tillie (Kadera) Machula. She married George J. Klouda on Aug. 18, 1936, in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Kenneth (Martha) Klouda of Coggon and Cliff (Karen) Klouda of Cedar Rapids, seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the family.

Marcia Ann Landuyt, 66, of Coralville, formerly of North Liberty, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Lantern Park. Funeral Services were held Oct. 15 at Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City. Burial followed at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Marcia Landuyt Memorial Fund.

Earle Heft Jr.

Earle “Bud” Clayton Heft Jr., 69, of Rockford, died peacefully in his home Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012. Funeral service was held Oct. 15 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Rockwell, with the Rev. Rhea Evanson officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, following lunch at the church.


Arlene Halvorson

Arlene Lavonne Halvorson, 85, of Coralville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City with her family by her side.
A memorial service was held for family and friends on Oct. 19 at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Memorials can be sent to Connie Jo Colby c/o Arlene Halvorson at 1317 N. Washington Ave., Mason City, Iowa.
Arlene was born in Mason City, on Oct. 19, 1926, to William Cheesman and Fern (Young) Cheesman. She worked for A.C. Nielsen Company in Mason City for many years before moving to Coralville.


Lorraine Grecian

Loraine Ethyl Grecian, 83, of Marshalltown, formerly of Lone Tree, passed away Oct. 14, 2012, at Iowa River Hospice of Marshalltown.
Lorraine was born Dec. 16, 1928, to Orville and Ethel Baker of Lone Tree. She graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1946. She married Paul Grecian on Dec. 29, 1947.
Local survivors include a son, Daryl (Judy) Grecian of Solon; and grandson Andrew Grecian of Solon.
Lorraine requested no services and for everyone to remember her as she was in their hearts and memories.


Rilda Fish

Rilda Colleen Fish, 62, of Marion, formerly of Shellsburg, died Oct. 12, 2012, at the Solon Care Center following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg.


Robert Michael Dooley

Robert Michael Dooley, 59, passed away on Oct. 16, 2012. Robert, known as Mike, was born on July 11, 1953. Mike attended Drake University to earn a bachelor of arts in history.
He loved to read about history and he often used it to make sense of the world. He loved his horse Rosemary. He was a storyteller and made everyone around him laugh. He never spoke out of anger and hardly ever raised his voice. His sudden and early passing will leave a void in many lives, but memories of him will serve to fill that hole with joy and laughter.


Walkin'

It was with a warm glow that we rode past Arlington Cemetery, across the Potomac and unto the National Mall.
My sense of well-being came from the Italian, Greek, Mexican and Thai sandwich I had for lunch; Sabra’s from the countless photo opportunities that presented themselves ahead. We also basked in the shared knowledge that we had bicycled two hundred miles to get here.
