New bus route starts Monday

NORTH LIBERTY– Starting Monday, April 2, the public bus route will offer additional stops throughout North Liberty. New stops include several west of Highway 965, such as Fairview Lane. and Sugar Creek Lane. Previously, the bus route only included North Liberty stops along Front Street and the Community Center.


120th Street work to begin April 9

SHUEYVILLE– Reconstruction of 120th St. from Interstate 380 to Club Road will begin the week of April 9, weather permitting. The work involves removal of the existing pavement, earthwork, installation of culverts, storm sewers and intakes; and construction of new pavement, driveways and sidewalks. The project will be phased to limit work to sections that will reduce the impact to the traveling public.


Pancake breakfast in Tiffin April 15

TIFFIN– The Tiffin Fire and First Responders will hold their annual pancake breakfast on Sunday, April 15, from 7 a.m. until noon at the Tiffin Fire Station, serving pancakes, eggs, locally processed sausage, cinnamon rolls, and Clear Creek Orchard Jams. Special order items are also available. Free will donation. The organizatoin thanks the community for its continued support.


Community invited to ‘Daddy Daughter Dance’ scheduled for April 14

NORTH LIBERTY– Heartland Community Church of North Liberty will be hosting a “Daddy Daughter Dance” on Saturday, April 14, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Heartland Community Church, 70 S. Kansas Ave., North Liberty.
Titled “A Red Carpet Event.” It will include a dance, food, crafts, photos and more. There is no cost to the event, which is open for the public.


Penn PTO to hold ‘Every Nickel Counts’ can drive

NORTH LIBERTY– The Penn Elementary School PTO is holding a can drive on Tuesday, April 10, from 2:45 until 6:45 p.m. at the school on 230 N. Dubuque St. Pop cans and plastic and glass bottles will be accepted. If it has an “IA 5-cent” deposit, they’ll take it. Just drive up and drop them off… they do the sorting. Cans/bottles should be reasonably clean and dry. Flattened or crushed items cannot be accepted. All funds raised will go to the Penn library makeover fund. A legal pitch

NORTH LIBERTY– A former Hawkeye baseball star is now laying down the law in North Liberty and he’s got the only game in town.
Ryan Prahm, who signed a minor league deal with the Cleveland Indians after several seasons pitching for the University of Iowa, has been practicing law in North Liberty since last fall.
He’s the only attorney currently practicing in the growing city and he said he likes it that way.
“The people I’ve gotten to know here have been great,” he said.


Sherman’s march

NORTH LIBERTY— In November of 1864, General William T. Sherman began his famous “march to the sea.” In November 2012, Steve C. Sherman hopes Johnson County voters will send him marching to the State Capitol in an effort to represent them in the House of Representatives.

When the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center (JECC) was conceived, the concept was simple: consolidate the various public safety (Fire, EMS and law enforcement) dispatchers in Johnson County in one combined dispatch center.


Study finds river recreation generates jobs

AMES– Many of Iowa’s river towns are again embracing their waterfronts, and with good reason, according to a new statewide river use study. The overall economic impact from river recreation along 73 Iowa river and stream segments supports more than 6,350 jobs with $824 million in sales and $130 million of personal income.
“In addition to recreational benefits, the results show that there are sizable local economic benefits from spending by visitors,” said Dan Otto, Iowa State University economics professor and ISU extension economist.


St. John places at state swim meet

SOLON– Solon High School senior Brady St. John attended the state swimming meet in Marshalltown and brought back a fourth place medal in the 100 Freestyle. He also recently competed in the Iowa Swimming Club meet, again earning fourth place.
