Marvin Dwight Hain, 74, of Coralville died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. Funeral Services were held Sept. 25 at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The American Heart Association.
Marvin was born on Nov. 13, 1937, in Indianola. He was the first of three sons born to Albert L. and Dorothy (Lauck) Hain. The family moved to Winterset, where Marvin received his schooling and graduated from Winterset High School in 1956. In the fall of 1956 Marvin attended the University of Iowa.

William D. “Bill” Bartlett, 32, of rural Solon, died from injuries in a motorcycle accident Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Solon, with burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church, where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bill’s memory, memorial masses are also welcome. I first became aware of cheerleaders when I was in junior high school. The only requirements for achieving this envied status seemed to be that you look adorable in the short skirt, baggy sweater and saddle-shoes, and that you could jump up and down, yell a lot, and generally attract attention. I didn’t know, at the time, that cheerleaders were required to audition for the role. These were called “try-outs” and girls practiced, along with their friends, for weeks ahead of time.
