NL engineer, inventor creates must-have baby safety product

NORTH LIBERTY– Gerald Beranek of North Liberty has always had a knack for solving everyday problems, consistently putting to use his background and education in mechanical engineering.
It was an everyday problem that led him to design and create his new product that is suddenly booming in the baby world; the Vusee monitor shelf.
As expectant parents, Beranek and his wife were setting up the baby’s nursery about eight months ago.
“When my wife asked me to put up the baby monitor, I wasn’t sure where it should go,” said Beranek. “Basically, there was no good place for it.”

Leading into that stretch, the Spartans are coming off the North Linn meet, with 18 (girls) and 19 (boys) full teams and several incomplete (less than five runners) squads circling the crowded Troy Mills campus. The boys were 11th, with just two top-50 runners in the crowded 1A through 3A field. The girls edged Central Clinton of DeWitt for the sixth spot.
