Hawkeye Basketball and wrestling

Hawk Talk

It was another busy weekend for the Hawkeyes as the men played one, the women two, and the wrestlers had four matches on Friday.
All were winners.
The Hawkeye women started the action last Thursday with a 95-81 overtime win over Western Illinois. Iowa stated strong and led by as many as 18, but couldn’t put the Leathernecks away.
Thank goodness for Whitney Jennings, who hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left to put the game into OT.
Last year, Whitney hit a free throw with one second left to put the Nebraska game into overtime. Iowa won, 78-72.

Hawks clinch the West

I was at the Iowa-Michigan State game in 1981 when Phil Blatcher ran for 247 yards and the Hawks beat the Spartans, 36-7, to clinch their first Big Ten title since 1958.
It was cold, there was snow on the ground and the temperature was in the 20s, but I stayed to the end as a fan in the stands (I was 27 years old).
I was also sitting in the stands when Iowa played Minnesota in 1991. The temperature was 28 degrees.
That was the “snow angel” game.

Good Morning Mama

Walkin'

I’m in Indianapolis this week.
Hannah, my youngest daughter, and her son Julian (J) moved here about two years ago. Hannah found a job as an environmental engineer and Julian, now 12, is in the seventh grade and doing well. Hannah is off to a conference in D.C. on building green, so I’m the DB, designated babysitter, although who should be watching who is debatable.
