Christmas Tree-ts

Around 200 people attended the first annual Christmas Tree Walk sponsored by Solon’s Old Gold Diner Dec. 5 at the Palmer House Stable on Main Street. Twenty-five individually decorated Christmas trees were on display throughout the day, and free-will offerings were collected for Solon nonprofit organizations. The event also featured live music, with the McAtee Trio (Sami, James and Lillee) pictured at right. (photos by Doug Lindner)

Hawks win two at Carver

Hawk Talk

It was doubleheader Tuesday last week at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, with the women beating Drake, 89-76, in the first game, while the men took care of Tennessee Tech, 85-63.

Hawkeye women

I was a little concerned when Iowa hosted the Drake Bulldogs last week.
The Bulldogs played Iowa down to the wire last year at Des Moines with the Hawks coming out on top, 100-98, on a last-second field goal by Samantha Logic.
This year, Drake opened the season with a 74-70 win over Iowa State, a team which beat the Hawkeyes 69-66 at Ames.

Food For Thought

I try not to make New Year’s resolutions, or any other type of resolution, if I can possibly avoid it. The reason: I know I won’t keep them, so why set myself up to feel guilty? I’ve come up with a better idea; make resolutions I’d like to see other people make. I must confess most of these “by proxy” resolutions arise from things that annoy me, but that’s as good a reason as any. One of the biggies, that has been bugging me in recent months, is the increasing use of initials everywhere.
