OXFORD– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity softball team snapped a six-game losing streak with a pair of wins Monday, June 12, at home against the Vikettes of Vinton-Shellsburg.

OXFORD– They welcomed an old friend back in Oxford.
Jim White and his Solon Lady Spartans traveled to McAreavy Field in Oxford Wednesday, June 14, for a varsity doubleheader with the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers.

11 Women of Troy earn MVC honors

IOWA CITY– The Mississippi Valley athletic Conference (MVC) released its 2017 All-Division picks for outstanding girls’ soccer players Monday, June 12. Iowa City West High was the champion for the Mississippi Division and standout Regan Steigleder was named division Athlete of the Year, while David Rosenthal and his staff took Coach of the Year honors.
Linn-Mar’s Allie Strottman earned the division Keeper of the Year title.

Liberty High basketball camps June 26-29

NORTH LIBERTY– Sign up by Sunday, June 25 for Liberty High School’s boys’ and girls’ basketball camps.
The boys’ camp will take place June 26-29 at North Central Junior High, with ninth grade from 8:30-10 a.m., seventh through eighth grade from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 10th-12th grade from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $65 and includes a T-shirt.
The girls’ camp is June 26-28 at Garner Elementary, with third through fifth grade from 9-11 a.m. and sixth through eighth grade from 12-2 p.m. Cost is $65 and includes a T-shirt.

Bolts light up the J-Hawks

Liberty High freshmen win, 11-1 and 15-4, over CR Jefferson

NORTH LIBERTY– Liberty High’s freshman baseball team fried the J-Hawks of Cedar Rapids Jefferson in a doubleheader Tuesday, June 13, at Penn Meadows Park in North Liberty under sweltering heat.
The Bolts took game one, 11-1, in four innings with a two-RBI triple in the first inning from Nolan Frey.
Sam Rechkemmer doubled in the second inning, while Alec Boldt knocked a three-RBI double to make it 6-0 for Liberty. Isaac Bender and Tyler Dahm drove in runs in the third making it 9-1, while Carter Fedeler drove in the winning run in the bottom of the fourth.

Family Day at the Iowa Raptor Project July 1

SOLON– Visit the Iowa Raptor Project on Saturday, July 1, for its monthly Family Day. Staff will be featuring the Eastern Screech-Owl, and there will be crafts about habitats, some tasty snacks and more.

More food, earlier start for Blues & BBQ

Volunteers needed for annual festival July 8 at Centennial Park

NORTH LIBERTY– Things may look and feel a little different this year at North Liberty’s annual blues fest.
It all starts with the event’s new logo, a bright yellow and blue guitar, and a greater emphasis on its mascot, Otis the Pig. There’s also the Pig & Pint Prelude dinner, parking and shuttle services, and earlier start times for food and kids’ activities.
“We’re excited for our new logo to last the next several years,” said Jillian Miller, community engagement coordinator for the City of North Liberty. She also praised the event’s new presenting sponsor, Veridian Credit Union.
