Solon turns to the air for offense as defense continues to shine

KEOKUK– After last week’s rushing successes by Hunter Kula, it was a forgone conclusion teams would be keying on Solon’s rushing game. However, the Spartans reloaded from their arsenal, and defeated the Keokuk Chiefs, 47-7, Friday, Sept. 8, in Keokuk.

North Liberty one of the 20 safest cities in Iowa

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah– North Liberty is one of the safest communities in Iowa, according to a report issued by a national home security company.
In its 4th annual Safest Cities in Iowa report, SafeWise ranked North Liberty as the 11th safest city in Iowa with a population of more than 3,000 people.
Eldridge ranked first, followed by Hampton and Waukon.
North Liberty improved its ranking from 21st the previous year.

Lord’s Acre Sale

Saturday in Shueyville Lunch, auction, sales and activities for a good cause

SHUEYVILLE– Kitchens and craft rooms are humming with activity across the Shueyville United Methodist Church community, as members and friends of the church’s congregation prepare for the church’s 70th Annual Lord’s Acre Sale.
The sale is to be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church, which is located at 1195 Steeple Ln. NE in Swisher.
The sale will feature a market, a chicken noodle soup lunch, a live auction, kids’ activities and fellowship, said Brenda Swanson, who has coordinated the past four sales.

NLFD responds to Fareway fire

Store reopened Monday, Sept. 11

NORTH LIBERTY– A Sunday morning fire at the Fareway grocery store is believed to have been caused by a refrigerator motor.
Members of the North Liberty Fire Department were dispatched at 10:32 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, after receiving reports of alarms going off and smoke coming from the roof of the structure located at 615 Westwood Dr.

North Liberty Community Library board of trustees vacancy

IOWA CITY– The Johnson County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for one vacancy on the North Liberty Community Library Board of Trustees for a person residing in unincorporated Johnson County to serve an unexpired term beginning immediately and ending June 30, 2020.

North Liberty Pantry to host Taste and Tour Open House Wednesday, Sept. 27

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty Community Pantry (NLCP) will host a Taste and Tour Open House on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 5-7 p.m. NLCP is located at 89 N. Jones Blvd. with Growing Together Garden on the west side of the building. This event is free and open to the entire community.
The Taste and Tour gives the community an opportunity to meet and greet staff members, learn about NLCP services and volunteer opportunities, and check out Growing Together Garden, a collaborative learning space.

Clear Creek Amana Hall of Fame Nominations due

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana Foundation Board is seeking nominations for the 2017 Hall of Fame award. Application letters are due by Sept. 15 and should include, at the minimum, the following information: a) Name of nominee; b) Address of nominee; c) Year (if known) and school graduated from; d) Whether person is deceased; e) Why should the person be considered for the honor- provide as many details as possible (years of service, what was the service, offices held, etc.); f) Letter signed by nominator with address and phone number, if questions.

Lightning Wrestling Club parent meeting Sept. 18

NORTH LIBERTY– Liberty Lightning Wrestling Club will host its first annual parent meeting on Monday, Sept. 18, from 6-8 p.m. in the Liberty High School Wrestling Room. The club is open to athletes in grades pre-k to eighth. Parents should come and learn more about the upcoming season and about getting their kids involved in the opportunity. Pedestrian tunnel revisited

Developments decrease cost, speed up the timeline

TIFFIN– There’s a light at the end of the tunnel after all, and it could mean a significant decrease in cost for a long-awaited piece of infrastructure in Tiffin.
“This would be a game-changer for sure,” City Administrator Doug Boldt said about developments regarding the Highway 6 tunnel and pedestrian sidewalk project nearly a decade in the making.
