Regals sink Clippers’ perfect record

IC Regina wins 2-1 over CCA

IOWA CITY– The streak is over.
Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) Clippers girls varsity soccer team had gone eight games without a loss. The Regals of Iowa City Regina ended that streak with a 2-1 win over CCA in Iowa City on Tuesday May 5.
It was a contest between the No. 2 (Regina) and No. 4 (CCA) teams in Class 1A as ranked by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union on Friday, May 1.

CCA girls fourth, boys sixth in home meet April 30

TIFFIN– The Solon Lady Spartans and Mount Vernon Mustangs took the top honors at Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) Pacha Relays in Tiffin Thursday, April 30. Solon led the eight-team field with 183 total team points followed by Mount Vernon, Williamsburg, the host Clippers (88 team points), Davenport Assumption, Tipton, Iowa City Regina and Durant. The Mustangs led the 10-team boys field with 123 points followed by Regina, Solon, Williamsburg, Monticello, CCA, Tipton, Assumption, Durant and Wilton.

Clippers break even in two days of play

CCA falls to West Liberty, sinks V-S

TIFFIN– Frank Sinatra once sang, “Riding high in April, shot down in May.” For Tim Benson and the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity boys soccer team, it was the opposite Monday and Tuesday, April 27 and 28.
The Clippers suffered their first loss of the season on Monday, falling 2-0 to West Liberty, but rebounded the next day with a 5-0 win over Vinton-Shellsburg.
“We caught a good team on a night they were playing well, and we didn’t play our best,” Benson said of the West Liberty game.

Solon's Ed Hadenfeldt set to retire

longtime coach and teacher Going, but won’t be gone

SOLON– Ed Hadenfeldt has been a fixture of the Solon Community School District for 36 years in the classroom, the wrestling room and on the gridiron sidelines. But now he says it’s time to try something else for a few years.

Ironic comedy is Pete Huch’s curtain call

TIFFIN — For 11 years, Pete Huch has been the director of the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) high school drama department. On Saturday April 11, as the curtain came down on the third and final performance of Little Shop of Horrors, the show ended and Huch’s time as department director went dark.
“I wouldn’t say I’m giving it up,” Huch said, “but I’m allowing someone else to entertain the audiences.”
The show centers on a man-eating plant from outer space and a number of people trying to find better lives for themselves. For Huch it was a bit more.

Hawks deliver West’s first loss on Barker Field

Trojans fall 2-0 to Cedar Rapids Prairie

IOWA CITY– History was made Tuesday, April 21, at West High’s Ed Barker Soccer Complex, but it wasn’t the kind of historic moment the Trojans wanted. The Hawks of Cedar Rapids Prairie handed the Trojans their first home loss since 2011– the first loss on Barker Field– taking a 2-0 decision from West.
Prairie scored with 4:08 left in the first half as the ball bounced past West’s keeper and put in the second goal three minutes later with a shot into the corner of the net.
The Trojans had some looks at the Prairie goal, but they were unable to hit pay dirt, dropping to 3-4 on the season.

West High undefeated, not yet perfect

Women of Troy top J-Hawks

IOWA CITY– The West High Women of Troy had little trouble with the visiting J-Hawks of Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Thursday, April 23, beating the Hawks 4-0. The victory improved West’s record to 6-0 as the team moved to No. 1 in Class 3A according to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union in its weekly rankings issued Friday, April 24. West took over the top spot after Linn-Mar dropped from No. 1 to No. 7 in the wake of a 2-1 upset loss to the Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars.

CCA boys down the West Delaware Hawks

4-0 home win for CCA

TIFFIN– It wasn’t an edge-of-your-seat thriller of a soccer match as there wasn’t much drama on Tuesday, April 14, when the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clipper boys varsity soccer team defeated the visiting Hawks of West Delaware 4-0. That was just fine with head coach Tim Benson.
“We’re OK with that. There was plenty of drama the last two games (first two of the season) with an overtime win, and Solon was knocking on the door the whole second half,” Benson said.
In both matches the opponent scored first, forcing the Clippers to come from behind for the win.

Design chosen for CCA’s STEM building

Formula for construction

TIFFIN— In March 2013, Kirkwood Community College assistant professor Joe Greathouse offered the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Community School District a unique opportunity. He proposed a freestanding building to house Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs on the district’s property in Tiffin at little to no cost to the district.

Schwarting, Brimeyer, hurdle relay team win

Clipper girls fifth at home meet

TIFFIN– The sun shined brightly but a stiff northwest wind with gusts around 40 mph made for chilly conditions Friday, April 10, as the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) girls track and field team hosted their Creek Classic Relays. The Clippers finished fifth in overall team points behind winner Solon, Mount Vernon, South Tama and Williamsburg.
Corrine Schwarting won the long jump with a 16’-5 1/2” leap; Mia Smith, Schwarting, Megan Lukas and Natalie Brimeyer took their shuttle hurdle relay to the win in 1:07.90 and Brimeyer won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.66 seconds.

Team results (Class A):

A big day for CCA on Tipton’s track

Wagner sets new shot put record, Brimeyer wins 100-meter hurdles

TIPTON– It was a successful day for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) track and field teams Tuesday, March 31, at the Tipton Co-Ed Meet, with the girls placing third in overall team points and the boys finishing fourth.
Drew Wagner broke an 11-year old record in the shot put and won the event with a 51’-6 1/4” throw while Natalie Brimeyer won in the 100-meter hurdles with her 16.81 seconds finish. Brimeyer also anchored the first-place shuttle hurdle relay with Mia Smith, Corrine Schwarting and Megan Lukas. The foursome won in 1:10.28.

Clear Creek Amana Show Choir dazzles in debut season

TIFFIN— This is the first year Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School students have orchestrated a show choir, and they’re making a joyful noise.
The group, 38 strong, has competed at the State Contest, the Keokuk “Power City” competition, as well as the Marion Invitational. So far, the group has placed third and third runner-up, with soloist Sage Spiker earning “Best Male Soloist” honors.
