Women of Troy tie for first at J-Hawk Relays

CEDAR RAPIDS– The Iowa City West High Women of Troy competed Saturday in the 28th annual J-Hawk Relays hosted by Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School and held at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids.
West tied with Dubuque Wahlert for first place in team points with 110.

TIPTON– On a day when other meets were postponed due to cold and wind, nine teams met on the track in Cedar County for Tipton’s Early Bird Coed Relays Monday, April 1. The Solon Spartans won the meet with 150.00 points, the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers were fifth with 48.00 and the host Tipton Tigers were seventh with 34.00.
CCA’s Tanner Bandy won the 400-meter dash in 53.25 seconds, and was second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.91 seconds.

Breakfast burritos will have you roaring for more April 5

 NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Lions Club’s second annual Burrito Breakfast will be held Saturday, April 5, from 8-11 a.m. at the North Liberty Recreation Center. This breakfast will coincide with the Spring Craft Sale that takes place the same day. Tickets for the breakfast cost $5 each and includes two breakfast burritos filled with sausage, eggs and cheese (condiments on the side), along with milk, coffee and juice. Tickets can be purchased at the North Liberty Community Library information desk or from any North Liberty Lions members.

Tiffin FD, First Responders pancake breakfast coming April 6

TIFFIN– The Tiffin Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders will hold a pancake breakfast on Sunday, April 6, at the fire station from 6 a.m. until noon.
The money raised by the firefighters and first responders is used to purchase protective safety equipment, medical gear and even fire trucks.

Rettig looks toward another county term

JOHNSON COUNTY– While Janelle Rettig already believes she lives in the best place on earth, she won’t stop trying to make it better.
Rettig has announced her intent to run for re-election to the Johnson County Board of Supervisors this November. Appointed in 2009 to fill the vacancy left by the passing of supervisor Larry Meyer, Rettig was then elected to the seat in a 2010 special election, and re-elected in November of the same year.
“Some people think I’ve already served two terms because I’ve been through two elections,” she joked.

NL Community Library receives technology grant award

NORTH LIBERTY– The State Library of Iowa is pleased to announce that the North Liberty Community Library has recently received a Library Technology Grant Award of $1,600 to purchase two laptop computers dedicated to career development. Patrons 18 years old and older can use these computers to build resumes, conduct job searches, take proctored exams and more.
