NORTH LIBERTY– The City of North Liberty will add a new role, and a new employee to carry it out, if a proposed housing ordinance passes its next two readings by the City Council.
The ordinance is specific to rental units and the obligations of landlords and tenants. State law requires towns with populations of 15,000 or greater to adopt an ordinance to ensure regular inspections of rental housing and a process for dealing with complaints.
NORTH LIBERTY– Representatives of South Slope Cooperative Communications and members of the Communication Workers of America (CWA) announced Monday the two groups had reached a collective bargaining agreement effective until September 2015.
The CWA and South Slope management had been involved in a contentious dispute over contract terms since Oct. 31, when the workers’ previous contract expired. South Slope locked workers out based on the lack of an approved contract, and the union subsequently voted down a proposed new contract.
TIFFIN– When Jami Tandy was diagnosed with breast cancer, she immediately received loads of support.
Her co-workers at South Slope Cooperative Communications and many friends began wearing Team Tandy buttons, complete with the requisite pink ribbon. Calls and cards and expressions of concern came pouring in. Prayers were said on her behalf.
But a completely unexpected show of solidarity came from Jami’s son and his basketball team, when they bounded onto the court sporting shaved heads and bright pink socks.
