North Liberty fire department reminds homeowners to shovel out fire hydrants

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty Fire Fighters are urging residents to clear snow around fire hydrants located in their neighborhoods. With more winter weather in the forecast, it is important fire hydrants remain clear of ice and snow to allow fire fighters easy access. Fire doubles in size every 17 seconds.
Having unimpeded access to the hydrants can make a significant difference while on a fire scene. Please help fire fighters by removing snow from an area of at least three feet around the fire hydrant.

By Doug Lindner

Because they fell out of the back of a truck topper.
Jay Proffitt has heard lots of chicken jokes in the last week.
Proffitt, along with his wife Helen and Frank and Shelley Kuennen, had been planning to secretly supply the Solon Community Food Pantry with about 60 chickens for Christmas.

Council picks up tab for diner

Old Gold Diner seeks support for going local

By Doug Lindner

SOLON– Art Tellin said it best.
Representatives for Solon senior citizens were present at last week’s city council meeting to discuss the city’s ongoing support of the Old Gold Diner after the senior dining site’s decision to split from provider Elder Services, Inc.
“I don’t want you to think this was a rash decision, that we just pulled away from the government funding, because we lost it anyway,” Tellin said. “We’ve got to keep this center going.”
And the city stepped up to the plate with a $6,000 contribution.
