Food for Thought

On Oct. 29, 1929, the Great Stock Market Crash brought American prosperity to its knees. 16 million shares changed hands on that day− a dramatic occurrence− but it was no more devastating than the creeping depression that had been sucking the life from small businesses and snatching land away from farmers.

Hawk Women Continue to Roll

IOWA CITY– The Hawkeyes have four games left in the regular season. They went into the Wisconsin game last week with 16 wins, 10 in the Big Ten conference.
It looks like they will need to win at least three games to get a shot at the Big Dance which would give them 19 wins for the season.
They picked up two with victories over the Badgers and Wolverines last week.
Nobody said it would be easy, and the 72-65 win over Wisconsin last Thursday at Carver showed that to be true.
Iowa didn’t match Wisconsin’s intensity in the first half and trailed 32-30.

Wrestlers Stay Unbeaten

IOWA CITY– The wrestlers finished their dual season undefeated, beating Indiana and Northwestern. That’s the first time since the 1999-2000 season that the Hawks were perfect and the 24 wins are the most in school history.
On Friday, the Hawkeyes knocked off Indiana, 24-12, winning six matches and losing four, including a forfeit at heavyweight as Dan Erickson’s ankle continues to heal.
A great win by Charlie Faulk at 125. Charlie beat the defending NCAA champ and Big Ten champ Angel Escobedo 3-1 in overtime to get the Hawks off to a good start.
